Resolution - Approving and Adopting the 2024 Marco Island Bike and Shared Path Master Plan Update - Justin Martin, P.E., Director, Public Works

Body

BACKGROUND

The Marco Island Bike and Shared Path (Ad-Hoc) Committee (“Committee”) and City staff have revised the Bike and Shared Path Master Plan (“Master Plan”) which was adopted originally by the City Council in 2009.  The Master Plan has been updated and presented to Council for acceptance over the years as improvements have been constructed and as grant funding has been sought.  This Master Plan identifies bike lanes and shared paths (wide sidewalks) projects to allow both expert and novice riders to access most parts of the City by bicycle.  The Committee meets regularly to determine the most desired bike routes that provide coverage to all sectors of the island.  The Committee continues to seek and apply for grants from the Florida Department of Transportation through the Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Attached as Exhibit “A” to the Resolution is a map of the updated Master Plan projects. The 2024 revision includes 6th Avenue and parts of Park Avenue and Elkcam Circle.
