Title
Marco Island Smokehouse Creek Bridge Replacement Project
Body
BACKGROUND:
At the March 16th, 2020, City Council meeting, Council conducted a public hearing which reviewed the FDOT Inspection Reports and the project scope of work. Council awarded a design contract to TY LIN, International to design a replacement bridge structure for the W. Winterberry Bridge, also known as the Smokehouse Creek Bridge.
The purpose of the project is the replacement of a functionally obsolete bridge structure that was originally constructed in 1967 and carries a major arterial roadway over the Smokehouse Creek. The structure has exceeded its 50-year design life and has a FDOT structural evaluation of 67 which is only slightly over the minimum tolerable. This bridge is also on our internal hurricane evacuation routes.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: This legislative grant application is for $1,702,512.00 which is 47.6% of the total project cost. Additional funding for the work is within the FY22 Capital Project “pay as you go” fund 3005410-606300-16025 which currently contains $3,560,265.00, therefore $1,872,763.00 would be our City match.
RECOMMENDATION: Accept the submittal of the Marco Island Smokehouse Creek Bridge Replacement Project for consideration by the State Legislature for FY22 funding.
