Title

Ordinance - Second Reading - Amending Year-Round Irrigation Conservation Measures

Body

BACKGROUND

On April 19, 2010 City Council approved an ordinance that amended the then current City Code regarding the irrigation schedule as recommended by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD).  Since then the Florida Administrative Code (FAC) has promulgated new rules that have caused inconsistencies with our existing irrigation schedule as outlined in Resolution 10-20.

The City updated the irrigation schedules posted on the City website, as linked below, and the educational information provided to our residents, but never updated the City’s Code of Ordinance to reflect the changes that have occurred over time.

The proposed Ordinance corrects any differences our City Codes have with the FAC rules by including the schedule within the code rather than a stand-alone referenced resolution.  This also allows the City to continue to follow the SFWMD best practices with regards to water conservations practices.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:  N/A.

RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends that the City Council approve the corrections being made to the current City Code.  By including the irrigation schedule in the City’s Code of Ordinances we ensure that any future changes to FAC rules or SFWMD best practices will be made concurrently and consistently.

POTENTIAL MOTION:  “I move adoption of Ordinance 20-02 on second reading.”
