BACKGROUND

At the request of the City Council the Public Works Department advertised bids for the construction of the San Marco Road Sidewalk Shared Use Pathway Project. The project will consist of the installation of an 8-foot wide concrete sidewalk shared use pathway on San Marco Road from South Barfield Drive easterly to 400-foot east of Vintage Bay Drive (Marco Island Academy).

 

The project was advertised on September 12, 2019 and bids were received and opened on October 24, 2019. The City received three (3) bids as follows:

 

1.                     American Design Engineering, Inc.                                          $721,068.00

2.                     Pavement Maintenance Inc.                                                               $784,385.00

3.                     Coastal Site Development                                                               $791,240.00

 

The engineers estimate for this project was $947,986.00.

 

The award of the contract for the construction is recommended based on the lowest responsible bid.

 

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has awarded the City a grant for this project. Funding for this project is within the FY20 “pay as you go” Capital Improvement Program under G/L No. 3005410-606300-20020.

 

RECOMMENDATION

Staff has reviewed the bid submittal and supporting documents and recommends that the contract be awarded to American Design Engineering, Inc., in the amount of $721,068.00.

 

POTENTIAL MOTION:  

“I move to authorize the City Manager to award the contract and approve the purchase order for the construction of the San Marco Road Sidewalk Shared use pathway to American Design Engineering, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $721,068.00.”
