Resolution - Appointment of Mr. Leslie Shade to the Firefighters’ Pension Plan Board of Trustees - Joan Taylor, City Clerk

BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to Florida Statutes 175.061(1)(a) and City of Marco Island Code of Ordinances Section 22-54, the fifth trustee of the Firefighters Pension Plan Board shall be chosen by a majority of the previous four trustees and such person's name shall be submitted to the City Council. Upon receipt of the fifth person's name, the City Council shall, as a ministerial duty, appoint such person to the Board of Trustees. The fifth trustee shall have the same rights as each of the other four trustees appointed or elected as herein provided, and shall serve a four-year term, unless the office is sooner vacated, and may succeed himself in office.
At the Firefighter’s Pension Plan Board of Trustees meeting held on June 7, 2024, a majority of trustees chose Mr. Leslie Shade to serve as the fifth trustee. Therefore, the City Council, as a ministerial duty, if obligated to make such an appointment.
Mr. Shade has previously served as a trustee on the Firefighters’ Pension Plan Board; appointed by City Council on September 6, 2022 (Resolution 22-24). Mr. Shade was appointed to the Trustee position in place of the City Clerk in 2022, Michael Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield was not a resident of Marco Island, a requirement for the City Clerk position on the board of Trustees.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: N / A
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution 24-31, appointing Mr. Leslie Shade as the fifth trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Firefighters’ Pension Plan, for a term of four years (ending 2028).
POTENTIAL MOTION: “I move to approve Resolution 24-31, appointing Mr. Leslie Shade as the fifth trustee on the Firefighters’ Pension Plan Board of Trustees, for a four-year term.
