Body
BACKGROUND:
The City Council directed staff to bring to the Planning Board Sec. 50-37- Prohibited parking, for a discussion regarding the allowance of parking in the swales in the Old Marco area.
The Council had concerns with traffic congestion and parking in the City right of way (swales) during the evening hours. Prohibiting swale parking was discussed and the Council wanted the Planning Board to review this section of the code.
Police and Code Enforcement were available for any questions.
The Planning Board discussed this item at the November 1, 2024, Planning Board meeting. The Planning Board recommended the City Council prohibit swale parking, north of Old Marco Lane, that do not have permitted improved parking, already in the swale areas.
The City Council discussed the Planning Board's recommendation on the November 18, City Council meeting. The council directed staff to have another public meeting at the Planning Board, discussing the recommendation, and then bring their recommendation back to City Council in the form of an Ordinance.
On January 10, the Planning Board again held a public hearing, discussing an Ordinance change to prohibit parking in the road swales. Discussion occurred regarding permit stickers, commercial patron parking, safety, and cleanliness of the swale area.
The Planning Board voted 5-1 to send a recommendation for the City Council to prohibit parking in the swales, north of Old Marco Lane, where permitted swale improvements had not already occurred
