BACKGROUND:
The Marco Island Police Department is requesting City Council support to implement full radio encryption across department operations. This transition is necessary to Protect officer safety, Safeguard sensitive citizen information, maintain interoperability with the Marco Island Fire Department, reduce legal liability exposure and align with modern public safety communication standards.
With the Marco Island Fire Department transitioning to encrypted communications, it is operationally critical that law enforcement adopt compatible encryption to ensure seamless emergency response coordination.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: Funds Will be Available Upon City Council Approval in the Department’s Police Capital Budget Account 3005210-606600-16051 for This Purpose.
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the City Manager to Issue a Purchase Order to Communications International, for Full Radio Encryption Across Department Operations, in the amount of $66,341.20 using Collier County Contract # 15-6409.
