BACKGROUND:
The Caxambas Court/Roberts Bay Bridge was originally constructed in 1973. In 2023, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) conducted a structural inspection and determined that the bridge was deficient and in need of replacement to ensure long-term safety and reliability.

On February 5, 2024, the City Council approved Resolution 24-06, authorizing the City Manager to execute a locally funded agreement with FDOT. This agreement includes a deposit representing 25% of the estimated design cost for the bridge replacement (FPID# 445460-1-32-01). Notably, FDOT's scope of work does not include the design of the water and sewer mains currently attached to the bridge, as these utilities fall under the jurisdiction of Marco Island Utilities. Consequently, utility design was excluded from Resolution 24-06.

In June 2025, the City Council approved the design for the relocation of the water and sewer utilities associated with the Caxambas Court Bridge Project through Resolution 25-28.
