Debrief of Arbor Day 2025 & Recognition Plaque/Stand Procurement (M. Cory)
Body
BACKGROUND: At the Committee’s April 2, 2025 meeting, Committee Member Michael Cory proposed the planting of a Bridalveil tree (Caesalpinia granadillo) in Calusa Park in honor of Arbor Day 2025. He recommended that a six-foot, 25 gallon tree be procured at a cost not to exceed $250.00, and he indicated his willingness and availability to water the tree regularly to ensure that it becomes established in its planted location. The Committee approved the budget allocation that he requested (see below).

The City of Marco Island’s Arbor Day celebration was held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Calusa Park beginning at 11:00 A.M. Member Cory invited members of the City Council, City's Staff, Calusa Garden Club and other supporters of the Committee to attend the brief ceremony which included a reading of the history of Arbor Day and the Proclamation from the April 7th City Council Meeting.
Member Cory also volunteered to investigate and bring a recommendation to the Committee on obtaining an appropriate memorial of the 2025 Arbor Day tree planting after the Arbor Day Event.
Member Cory will provide a debrief of the Event and provide an update on his investigation into procuring a recognition plaque/stand to identify the Committee’s 2025 Arbor Day planting.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: $250.00 from the Committee’s 2025 FY budget (already approved).
RECOMMENDATION: Receive Member Cory’s report and recommendations.
POTENTIAL MOTION: I move to approve an allocation of $XXX.XX from the Committee’s 2025 Fiscal Year Budget to procure a 2025 Arbor Day tree recognition plaque and stand.
