BACKGROUND

This is a discussion with the City Council regarding allowing the Marco Island Model Yacht Club to park on the lawn or grassy area at Mackle Park for continuous use when the City Manager and Director recommend using the existing paved parking lot due to safety concerns.

Chapter 34 PARKS AND RECREATION

Sec. 34-3. Establishment of rules and regulations.

The following rules and regulations are established for the public's use of parks:

(2)                     Parking.

a.                     No person shall park any motor vehicle upon any roadway in the park or at any location where posted signs or symbols painted on the pavement prohibit parking.

b.                     No person shall park any motor vehicle upon any lawn or grassy area unless specifically authorized by the director through the facility use policy.

 

ARTICLE V. OFF-STREET PARKING AND LOADING

Sec. 30-483. Off-street parking design standards.

Off-street parking facilities and other vehicular facilities, both required and provided, in all zoning districts,

shall:

(1)                     Identification. Be identified as to purpose and location when not clearly evident.

(2)                     Surfacing. The following surfacing requirements apply to all zoning districts other than single-family residential districts (RSF-2, RSF-3, RSF-4):

a.                     Be surfaced with asphalt, concrete, solid concrete pavers, or other approved concrete or asphalt surfaces, maintained in a smooth, well-graded condition.

RECOMMENDATION: Use the existing paved parking lot.
