Authorize the City Manager to Execute the State of Florida Department of Financial Services Grant Agreement Number FM907 for the Acquisition of a High-Water Fire Suppression Vehicle in the Amount of $212,500 - Chris Byrne, Fire Chief, Fire-Rescue Department
Body

BACKGROUND:
Approval of this request will provide $212,500 of grant funding for the acquisition of a high-water fire suppression vehicle.

In response to the increase in fires as a result of Hurricane Ian storm surge flooding and the need to provide fire protection during tropical events, staff identified the need for a fire engine capable of operating in flood waters. The need was presented to the City Council and approved as a legislative appropriation funding priority.

The State of Florida Legislature in FY24 approved $212,500 towards the acquisition of this fire engine.

Staff submitted a grant funding request as part of the City's 2023-2024 legislative priority request, which was subsequently approved. The State has awarded a contribution grant, which provides $212,500 of State funds towards this project.

On March 18, 2024, the City Council approved the execution of a contract with Ten-8 Fire & Safety for the acquisition of the high-water fire suppression vehicle for an amount not to exceed $736,184. The $212,500 legislative appropriations grant funding was applied to this purchase.

Upon City execution of a contract for the equipment, the State of Florida then creates the grant agreement for execution which is the purpose for this agenda item.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:
FY24 Legislative Appropriation of $212.500 will be applied to the purchase. The balance of $512,471 will be funded through a tax-exempt lease agreement.
