Collaboration with the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (L. Scherzinger)

Body

BACKGROUND:  At the Committee’s June 4, 2025 meeting, Vice-Chair Linda Scherzinger, in noting the Committee's past engagement with the City's Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) on Committee-led trees planted in Mackle Park and Calusa Park, proposed that a representative member from each Committee be appointed and come together to:

1)                     collaborate in identifying City park locations where new trees are desired for the 2026 Fiscal Year (and beyond), and;

2)                     lead the engagement within their respective Committees to obtain full Committee commitment to the collaboratively-developed tree-planting plan.

Chair Needles, with the support of the Committee, endorsed the proposal offered by Vice-Chair Scherzinger and he volunteered to reach out to the Chair of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (Ms. Dolores Siegel) to propose that a Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee representative be identified.

He advised the Committee at its July 9th meeting that he had contacted and gained agreement from Ms. Siegel that she would discuss this proposal at the PRAC’s July 15, 2025 meeting.

Vice-Chair Scherzinger volunteered to follow-up with the representative(s) from the PRAC, and lead this collaboration on behalf of the Beautification Advisory Committee.

A report on that status of her engagement with the PRAC is expected at the Committee’s September 3rd meeting.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: The Committee’s 2026 Fiscal Year Tree Fund (if approved by the Marco Island City Council).

RECOMMENDATION: Receive Vice-Chair Scherzinger’s report; determine next steps.

POTENTIAL MOTION:   None expected.
