Title

Approval of Interlocal Agreement Between Collier County and the City of Marco Island for City Beach Access Improvements in the Amount of $147,500 - Casey Lucius, Ph.D., Assistant City Manager

Body

BACKGROUND:

The City submitted a grant application for Tourist Development Tax funds in the amount of $283,500 for the Marco Island Beach Access Improvement Project. This project includes improvements at the beach access corridors located at South Collier Boulevard and Maple Avenue, and South Collier Boulevard and Winterberry Drive. The project will include bicycle parking, improved landscaping with native plants, lighting for safety that meets sea turtle lighting requirements, art, and educational signs.

The TDC removed the art murals and the contingency funds from the request and agreed to fund $147,500.  The cost of the entire project for both beach access points is estimated at $405,000.  The remaining $257,500 would be the responsibility of the City if the Council chooses to initiate this project. If the art murals are removed, the City’s share would be approximately $157,500.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:  Collier County will reimburse the City $147,500 from Tourist Development Tax funds when the project is completed.  The City Council would need to redirect funds in the capital budget to fund either $157,500 or $257,500.

RECOMMENDATION:  Approval of the Interlocal Agreement and fund $257,500 for the project.

POTENTIAL MOTION: “I make a motion to approve the interlocal agreement between Collier County and the City of Marco Island for City beach access improvements in the amount of $147,500 and fund from the capital budget $257,500.”
