Title

Mutual Agreement between the City of Marco Island and the Marco Island Yacht Club to provide sailing instruction and sublease of the coastal property.

Body

BACKGROUND

The Marco Island Yacht Club (MIYC) Board of Directors contacted City staff in 2018 with an interest in managing and enhancing the sailing program currently administered and funded by the City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Division and the Marco Island Sailing Center, a nonprofit organization. This program, which primarily instructed youths in the art of sailing on Marco Island and was primarily a summer program, expanded to adult instruction and competition sailing off island year-round.

The land used for this program came through a Sovereignty Submerged Land Lease (SSLL) from the Florida Department of Transportation, via access though a MIYC parking lot access easement.

During the initial discussions, the MIYC also had also shown interest in expanding the footprint of the area leased from the State, expanding the sailing program even more while providing public parking use.

Though a sublease with the City of Marco Island with the attached agreement, MIYC plans on continuing it’s programing with the same instructors and maintaining the grounds. MIYC only asks that the City help in marketing the program as needed.
