Presentation - Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee - Committee Member Darin Spindler
Body
BACKGROUND:
During the January 5, 2026 City Council Meeting, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) Member Darin Spindler presented a recommendation to enhance a parcel of City-owned property to promote burrowing owl habitation and establish a designated observation area. Council agreed with the recommendation and provided direction that PRAC may start to source funding for the project.
The PRAC Committee anticipates advancing this project in two phases. Phase One would involve engaging a landscape architect to prepare drawings and blueprints necessary to convert the parcel into a habitat conducive to burrowing owl nesting. Phase Two would encompass the implementation of the project.
PRAC is seeking funding from the Marco Island Community Parks Foundation. PRAC members are sharing the concept with the Foundation and if agreeable will come back with a proposal for funding to support Phase 1.
The Committee will also look to the community, through targeted fundraising efforts to help supplement support as needed (Phase 2).
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: TBD
RECOMMENDATION: Receive presentation and provide feedback for funding consideration.
