Tree Planting Master Plan Development (All)

BACKGROUND: At the Committee’s March 5, 2025 meeting, Committee Vice-Chair Linda Scherzinger confirmed the Committee's top two tree-planting priorities to be:
Priority #1: on both sides along South Heathwood Avenue between San Marco Road and Winterberry Drive (unanimously approved by the Committee at its December 4, 2025 meeting)
Priority #2: on both sides along Swallow Avenue between South Collier Boulevard and Seagrape Drive (unanimously approved by the Committee at its January 8, 2025 meeting)
Ms. Scherzinger then briefly highlighted several of the eight (8) potential alternative locations that the Committee also reviewed at its January 8, 2025 meeting.
Now with:
1) progress already underway on South Heathwood Avenue (Priority #1);
2) Committee approval at its April 2, 2025 meeting to apply its remaining 2025 Tree Fund Budget toward tree plantings on Swallow Avenue (Priority #2), and;
3) the Calusa Garden Club’s request to also consider tree planting locations in the swale area bordering Calusa Park on Winterberry Drive,
the Committee has an opportunity to define its Tree Planting Master Plan in anticipation of a possible continuation of a Tree Fund allocation from the Marco Island City Council for the 2026 Fiscal Year.
A discussion of how the Committee wishes to approach the development of its Tree Planting Master Plan will be addressed at its May 7, 2025 meeting.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: To be determined for Fiscal Year 2026.
RECOMMENDATION: Determine the Committee’s plan of action.
POTENTIAL MOTION: None expected.
