Title
Ordinance - First Reading - Proposed Ordinance for Adoption of the Latest Edition of the Florida Building Code - Don Davis, Chief Building Official - Community Affairs/Building Services
Body
BACKGROUND:
The Ordinance update is intended to align with the upcoming Florida Building Code, 9th Edition (2026), which is scheduled to take effect on December 31, 2026. The proposed revisions are primarily administrative in nature and are intended to ensure consistency with the latest changes to applicable state laws and regulations. Overall, Chapter 1 remains largely unchanged; however, several minor revisions have been incorporated to reflect recent amendments to the Florida Statutes and clarify specific requirements related to building permits. These updates address items such as the expiration dates for single-family building permits, exemptions from permitting requirements, and applicable time frames for permit-related processes. Collectively, these changes are intended to maintain consistency with state law, improve clarity, and ensure that the Ordinance remains current and applicable in advance of the implementation of the new Florida Building Code.
