Title

Letter to Collier County Public School Board Regarding Reimbursement Rate for School Resource Officers, Casey Lucius, Ph.D., City Manager

Body

BACKGROUND

On May 18, 2026 the City Council entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to provide three School Resource Officers to the schools on Marco Island.  The agreement includes a reimbursement from the School District in the amount of $44,137.  However, the cost for three full time police officers to maintain these duties is approximately $407,000.  Following a discussion, Council agreed to send a letter to the School Board and Councilors will attend future Board meetings to speak to the issue of funding these positions.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:  The City pays over $360,000 per year to fund the District’s SRO program.

RECOMMENDATION: Approve having the Chairman sign the letter and having the City Manager send the letter to those listed in the attachment.

POTENTIAL MOTION:   “I move to authorize the Chairman to sign the letter and have the City Manager send the letter to Collier School Board.”
