BACKGROUND:
Ronald Book, P.A has been the City’s lobbyist since October 1, 2014. His contract has been extended several times since. The cost of this contract was $60,000 from 2014 to 2019. Upon the renewal of his contract in 2019, City Council agreed to increase the contract amount to $66,000 or a 10% increase.
The current contract with Ronald Book, P.A expires on September 30, 2023. City Staff reached out to Ronald Book, P.A. to notify him of the upcoming contract expiration. He expressed interest in renewing the contract. He has proposed a 3-year contract with an annual contract cost of $75,000 annually. This is a $9,000 increase over the prior agreement or about 13.6%. The proposed agreement is attached to this agenda item.
City Staff believes it is in the City’s best interest to renew the contract for Ronald Book, P.A.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT: $75,000 annual fee is included in the proposed FY24 operating budget and is split 50/50 between general government operating fund and water and sewer utility operating fund.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to extend contract #19-034 with Ronald Book, P.A. for a three-year term.
