BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this agenda item is to obtain City Council approval to authorize Genserve LLC for supply and install a new generator at the Marco Island Police Department. During a required integrity test of the Police Department generator fuel tank, it was determined that the outer protective tank has been compromised due to severe corrosion. As a result, the test could not be completed because of the risk that the inner tank wall could fail without having the required secondary containment protection. Staff obtained pricing to replace only the fuel tank; however, the cost exceeded $105,000. Given the age of the existing generator (manufactured in 2007) and its expected service life of approximately 25 years, staff determined that full replacement of the unit is the most practical and cost-effective solution. The proposed replacement generator has an anticipated service life of approximately 25 years.
FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:
The Police Department generator project in the amount of $234,070 will be funded through the existing Police Maintenance Capital Budget under GL Account No. 300-5210-16079 (PD Generator Overhaul Fund) using piggyback lee county contract B240559DJN.
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the City Manager to issue a purchase order in the amount of $234,070 to Genserve LLC for supply and installation of a new generator at the Marco Island Police Department utilizing piggyback Lee County contract B240559DJN.
