Urban County Cooperation Agreement - Daniel J. Smith, AICP, Director, Community Affairs/Growth Management

Body

BACKGROUND

Kristi Sonntag, Director, Community and Human Services of Collier County will provide a brief  overview of the County’s Plans to requalify for an “Urban County” status with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for FY 2025 - 2017.

Every three (3) years, HUD requires Collier County to re-qualify as an “Urban County”.  This status allows Collier County to continue to directly receive Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), HOME Investments Partnership Program (HOME) funds, and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funding from HUD.

Marco Island had previously participated in this process but in recent years decided to not participate.  Because of this, Collier County is precluded from expending Federal funds within the city limits of Marco Island.

Marco Island must notify Collier County and HUD of its intent to participate in an agreement for the next three (3) fiscal years (2025 - 2027) by April 15, 2024.

If Marco Island participates in the “Urban County” re-qualification process, a new Urban County Cooperation Agreement between Marco Island and Collier County must be executed by the Marco Island City Council by May 15, 2024.
