Title
Selection of Candidate to Fill the City Council Vacancy - Joan Taylor, City Clerk
Body
BACKGROUND:
On May 16, 2024, Councilor Greg Folley announced his resignation from the Marco Island City Council effective November 5, 2024.
Section 3.05(3) of the City Charter provides the following process for filling a council vacancy: “If the remainder of the unexpired term is 28 months or less, the remaining Council Members shall, within sixty (60) days following the occurrence of such vacancy, by majority vote of the Council Members, appoint a person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.”
During November 18, 2024, City Council meeting, Council members agreed to fill the vacancy through an application process which included interviews by Council members with a vote for appointment. Applications were accepted from November 6-22, 2024.
On December 2, 2024, January 6, and January 21, 2025, Councilors made nominations to fill the vacant position. None received a majority vote and therefore, the vacancy was not filled.
At today’s Special Called Meeting, Council members will discuss their recommendations for the candidate selection process and appoint the candidate.
Applications and resumes from the interested candidates have been included for Council’s review. Listed in alphabetical order by first name are the applicants and their resumes are attached:
