County Boards and Organizations Quarterly Update - Councilors Brechnitz, Gray, Schwan and Chair Palumbo

BACKGROUND

Council members represent the City of Marco Island on various County Boards and Organizations.   At the last meeting of each quarter, Council members will provide an update on the Board or Organization they serve. 

 

Coastal Advisory Committee (CAC):  Councilor Brechnitz

This committee assists the Board of County Commissioners with its establishment of unified beach erosion control and inlet management programs within the unincorporated and incorporated areas of Collier County. The committee also advises the Board of County Commissioners and the Tourist Development Council (TDC) of project priorities with respect to funding sources that are available to Collier County for restoration and protection of its shoreline.

 

Southwest Florida League of Cities (SWFLC):  Councilor Gray

The SWFLC represents the municipal interests of 12 cities in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Lee Counties.   This organization works closely with the Florida League of Cities and collaborates with local elected official regarding Florida legislature.  Meetings provide opportunities for representatives to exchange learnings, events and issues with other elected officials in the organization. 

 

Collier Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO):  Councilor Schwan

The MPO is a transportation policy-making organization and is made up of representatives from local municipalities and public transportation authorities. The Collier MPO is committed to providing the urban area with a Continuing, Cooperative and Comprehensive transportation planning process to assure that highway facilities, mass transit, bicycle/pedestrian and other intermodal facilities be properly located and developed in relation to the overall development of the community.

 

Tourist Development Committee (TDC):  Chair Palumbo

This committee’s goal is to promote world class vacation and group meeting experiences, which result in positive economic growth and stability for Collier County. To accomplish this, the Committee makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding proposed plan uses for tourist development tax revenues, identify special projects or uses of the tourist development tax revenues, and reviews expenditures from the tourist development trust fund.
