Title

Award of Contract to Capital Contractors LLC in the Amount of $517,050 for Racquet Center Upgrades. - Joe Parrilli, Fleet and Facilities Manager

Body

BACKGROUND

City Council previously approved the use of remaining Racquet Center project funds to demolish the existing Racquet Center building and stadium court to accommodate additional parking. The revised project plans include construction of a new parking lot on the site of the former Racquet Center and stadium court. The new lot will include landscaping and much-needed parking lot lighting.

To accommodate access to the new parking lot, four existing parking spaces in the original lot will be removed to allow for a new entrance. New lighting will also be installed throughout the existing parking lot to enhance safety and visibility.

The original project scope included upgrades to the remaining courts; however, construction bids exceeded the funds budgeted by the City, requiring a reduction in scope. Upon completion of the parking improvements, the Racquet Center will have a total of 62 parking spaces, representing a net increase of 14 spaces.

Per code requirements of three parking spaces per court, the additional parking will allow for the future conversion of one tennis court into four pickleball courts when funding becomes available.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT

The Racquet Center project will be funded through the existing Parks Capital budget under GL Account No. 300-5700-5720-606300-23801.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommend awarding the contract to Capital Contractors LLC in the amount of $517,050 and funding the Racquet Center project using the previously approved and budgeted Parks Capital funds.
