BACKGROUND

The Winterberry Beach access boardwalk, located at the corner of Winterberry Drive and South Collier Boulevard, sustained damage during Hurricane Ian. Both proposals include the necessary demolition of the current structure, site setup, and permitting/coordination services. Below is a summary of the two replacement strategies:

Option 1: Full Boardwalk Replacement

Total Estimate: $849,400.00 This option focuses on a complete structural replacement within the existing footprint.

Foundation & Framing: Installation of new driven timber pile foundations, cap beams, and stringer framing using treated lumber.

Decking: High-quality composite decking with marine-grade hardware.

Accessibility: Includes the construction of a new ADA-accessible switchback ramp and the refurbishment/reinstallation of existing handrails.

Option 2: Mobi-Mat System Installation

Total Estimate: $347,750.00 This option provides a grade-level alternative utilizing a Mobi-Mat walkway system.

Earthwork: Delivery and compaction of approximately 996 CY of fill to create a 300 LF graded alignment.

Specifications: A 10-foot wide finished walking surface with 4:1 side slope.

Environmental: Includes silt fence installation for erosion control and landscaping of new slopes with approximately 100 cordgrass plants.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:

The project will be funded through reappropriated funds from the City’s General Fund Reserves. The current estimated FEMA reimbursement is approximately $35,000 if project is reconstructed as is, with potential for adjustment post-completion.
