Title

South Heathwood Median at Winterberry Drive: Post Hurricane Season Repair Update (J. Martin)

Body

BACKGROUND:  At the Committee’s October 2, 2024 meeting, Public Works Director Justin Martin noted that several plantings from the Committee’s South Heathwood Drive Median Enhancement Project were “stressed” by hurricane storm surge, and that the replacement of damaged/dead plants in that median would be undertaken after the conclusion of the 2024 Hurricane Season.

During “Staff Communications” at the Committee’s December 4, 2024 meeting, Committee Chair Shelli Connelly noted that the City's landscape contractor installed plants in that median that were inconsistent with the landscape architect's proposed design plan (attached), and that the current plantings lacked the Committee’s desired “WOW” factor.

Ms. Connelly requested: 1) to review the invoices submitted by the City's landscape contractor for the work, and; 2) that the City Staff undertake the responsibility for replacing the dead and damaged plants.

Public Works Director Justin Martin volunteered to reach out to the City's landscape contractor on the Committee's behalf.

An update is expected from Director Martin at the Committee’s January 8, 2025 meeting.

FUNDING SOURCE / FISCAL IMPACT:  Undetermined.

RECOMMENDATION:  Receive Director Martin’s report; determine the Committee’s next steps.

POTENTIAL MOTION:   None expected.
